Where Your Student Fee Goes
Student membership fees account for approximately 40% of gross SAOC revenue. Over the past couple of years, we’ve reduced reliance on student fees by increasing revenue from food & beverage operations, sponsorships and partnerships, and other income streams.
SAOC operates in a not-for-profit fashion, and everything that we do is in service of students. Our top priority is ensuring that our revenue is used in ways that benefit our student members - providing important services, maintaining our on-campus spaces and assets, and undertaking important initiatives related to the student experience, including institutional and government advocacy.
Your membership fee is what provides your access to all the important services listed above, and so much more.
For every $100 spent on SA fees…
$38.86 goes to Student Service Staff & Program Delivery,
$38.07 goes to Student Advocacy, Awards, Campus Events & Swag, and
$23.07 goes to General SAOC Operations & Business Expenses.
In addition to SAOC’s central operations, our enterprise goes further to support the student experience and diversify our revenue streams, helping to make our organization more sustainable and our programs & services more broad.
We partner with Alumo to administer the student health & dental plan. Every year, participating students pay $350 for their health & dental benefits. In the 2025-2026 year, plan costs equaled 99.5% of earnings - meaning that students were squeezing almost every last dollar of value from their plan!

Food & Beverage Services
Historically, SAOC has operated The Crossing and Bloom Cafe on a loss model, keeping menu prices low to offer student-friendly pricing in our on-campus food & beverage spaces. In an effort to make these services more self-sufficient and independently sustainable, SAOC is working towards a break-even model in our food & beverage spaces, bringing revenue and expenses into better alignment.
Our food & beverage operations rely heavily on seasonal staff. We employ as many as 20 individuals from September through April to help us deliver affordable, student-centered food & beverage services throughout the school year. This also allows us to offer tons of student-friendly work opportunities every year!
Don’t forget - SAOC is an independent organization with our own mandate and our own leadership. Our entire Board of Directors and Executive Council are made up of Olds College students who set the long-term, high-level strategic direction of the organization.
